Overview

What is Applied Behaviour Analysis (ABA)

Applied Behaviour Analysis (ABA) when used with children with autism, is an evidenced-based treatment that focuses on teaching specific skills including social skills, communication, reading, and academics as well as adaptive learning skills, such as hygiene and grooming. ABA has been researched for decades and has been found to be effective for children with autism in home and in clinical settings, as well as at school. At Breakthrough Autism, a qualified ABA professional will design and oversee your child’s customized treatment program.

Why ABA

ABA has been researched and evaluated for over five decades and has been endorsed by Federal and Provincial organizations in Canada, as well as the U.S. Surgeon General, National Institutes of Health (NIH), and the Association for Science in Autism Treatment in the US. ABA is what is known as an evidence-based practice and significant research has demonstrated that it is a safe and effective treatment for children with Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD).

ABA can be used to teach a variety of skills including language, social skills, functional living skills, and reading. ABA procedures are also effective in decreasing challenging behaviours such as tantrums, aggression and
self-injury.

At Breakthrough Autism, we work with your child using ABA strategies to address their specific needs, rather than taking a cookie-cutter approach. And this means involving you and the rest of your family along the way… after all, you play the most important role in your child’s growth and development.
