Overview

What is Applied Behaviour Analysis (ABA)

Applied Behaviour Analysis (ABA) when used with children and teens with autism, is an evidenced-based treatment that focuses on teaching communication, social skills, play skills, learning readiness, self-care skills, such as toileting and dressing, plus so much more! ABA has been researched for decades. It has been found to be effective for children and teens with autism. At Breakthrough Autism, a qualified Behaviour Analyst will design and oversee your child’s customized treatment program.

Why ABA

ABA has been researched and evaluated for over five decades and has been endorsed by Federal and Provincial organizations in Canada, as well as the U.S. Surgeon General, National Institutes of Health (NIH), and the Association for Science in Autism Treatment in the US. ABA is what is known as an evidence-based treatment. Significant research has demonstrated that it is a safe and effective treatment for children with Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD).

ABA can be used to teach a variety of skills including language, social, play, self-care, and academic. ABA procedures are also effective in decreasing challenging behaviours such as tantrums, aggression and self-injury.

At Breakthrough Autism, we work with your child using ABA strategies to address their specific needs, rather than taking a cookie-cutter approach. And this means involving you and the rest of your family along the way… after all, you play the most important role in your child’s growth and development.
